Can World Bank staff use their dental plan at DC Dental Spa?

Yes. Your MIP dental plan pays toward care at any licensed dentist, and that includes DC Dental Spa.

DC Dental Spa is a fee-for-service office and doesn't join PPO networks. That means an insurance company doesn't set the fees or decide how long your visit lasts.

Here's how a visit works with your plan:

  1. Bring your Cigna Dental card to your appointment.
  2. Pay for your visit at the office.
  3. DC Dental Spa sends the claim to Cigna Dental.
  4. Cigna pays its share back to you.

What your World Bank dental plan pays

At a fee-for-service office like DC Dental Spa, Cigna pays 80% of its allowed amount for covered care. Cigna sets that amount at the 80th percentile of what dentists in the area charge.

Here's what the 2026 MIP dental plan pays at DC Dental Spa:

Type of careCigna paysYearly limit
Exams, cleanings, X-rays, and fluoride80%, no deductibleCounts toward $3,200
Fillings, root canals and simple extractions80% after deductibleCounts toward $3,200
Crowns, bridges and dentures80% after deductibleCounts toward $3,200
Gum treatment80% after deductibleNo limit
Oral surgery for impacted teeth80% after deductibleNo limit
Implants, when 4 or more teeth are missing from the arch80% after deductibleNo limit
Orthodontics, including Invisalign80% after deductible$2,400 lifetime maximum

The limits to know:

  • Deductible: $250 per person and $500 per family each year, waived for exams and cleanings
  • Yearly maximum: $3,200 for exams, cleanings, fillings, crowns, and other basic and major care, and it resets January 1
  • Visits: two exams and four cleanings a year

Let's do the math on a first visit together. The $125 new patient visit covers an exam, cleaning, X-rays, and fluoride for patients without gum disease. If Cigna's allowed amounts cover the full $125, the plan pays $100, and you pay $25.

You pay any part of a fee above Cigna's allowed amount. For larger treatment, CareCredit and Sunbit can spread the cost into monthly payments.

Dental care for IMF staff

IMF staff and their families have the IMF Medical Benefits Plan. Bring your plan card, and DC Dental Spa files the claim with your plan for you.

IMF HR can tell you the three things that shape your cost:

  • What the plan pays for a dentist outside its network
  • The deductible, and whether it applies to cleanings
  • The yearly maximum

How to use your dental benefits this year

MIP dental benefits run on the calendar year, so your deductible and $3,200 maximum start over on January 1.

  • Use your cleanings and exams. You get four cleanings and two exams a year, and Cigna pays 80% with no deductible.
  • Split big treatment across two years when it's safe. Spreading crowns or a bridge across December and January lets two years of the $3,200 maximum apply. Dr. Hoang will tell you which work can wait.
  • Know which care has no cap. Gum treatment and oral surgery have no yearly or lifetime maximum, and neither do implants when four or more teeth are missing from the arch.
  • Use the orthodontic benefit. Invisalign is covered at 80% after the deductible, up to a $2,400 lifetime maximum, and adults qualify along with covered dependents.
  • Ask about the Oral Health Integration Program. If a doctor is treating you for a condition such as diabetes or heart disease, or you're pregnant, Cigna may reimburse your coinsurance on certain dental care. Register on myCigna first.

Dental care around missions and home leave

Long flights can set off pain in a tooth that already has a problem. Dentists call it barodontalgia, and it affects 0.26% to 2.8% of air passengers, aircrew, and divers.

A review of the research advises holding off on flying until all needed dental treatment is finished.

  • Book your checkup with your travel dates in mind.
  • Finish open treatment, such as a pending filling, root canal, or crown, so you don't fly with temporary work.
  • Mention any sensitivity to cold or biting while you're still in DC.

If a tooth breaks or starts hurting, the emergency exam is $160 and includes an X-ray and treatment to ease the pain.

Dental care for the whole family

Your MIP plan can also cover your spouse or partner and your dependent children, so the whole family can see one dentist.

  • Kids: children's dentistry with checkups, cleanings, and fluoride
  • One office: Dr. Hoang refers out fewer than 2% of cases
  • Nervous patients: twilight sedation is available
  • Languages: Dr. Hoang speaks English and Vietnamese, and team members speak Spanish and other languages

Your first visit

There are two easy ways to start:

  • Free consultation: sit down with Dr. Hoang, talk through what you want to fix or change, and hear your options and what each one costs. There's no fee and no obligation.
  • $125 new patient visit: an exam, cleaning, X-rays, and fluoride for patients without gum disease.

For bigger cases, you'll see three treatment plans (basic, middle, and premium) with the cost of each, and you choose.

Bring your Cigna Dental or IMF plan card, plus your travel dates so treatment fits around your missions.
