Propel® Accelerated Treatment

We can now reduce the standard Invisalign treatment time by 50% with PROPEL®! PROPEL offers a technique that results in straighter teeth in less time. DC Dental Spa is part of a select network that provides the accelerated orthodontic technique PROPEL®.

Propel orthodontics is the result of a dental device which is used to make micro-perforations in the bone around the teeth. These perforations are mild in nature and in most cases only require a topical anesthetic. The micro-perforations can be performed anywhere in the mouth or can be localized to specific areas as needed. These micro-perforations will result in up to 50% faster tooth movement resulting in the term propel orthodontics. The effect of the micro-perforations lasts about three months.

Our always advancing team at DC Dental Spa are educated in this very latest in orthodontic technology. Orthodontic treatments have become more efficient in the last few decades but not necessarily faster. We are now using the very latest in orthodontic technology to reduce the length of time that you must wear your orthodontic appliances. Propel orthodontics works by stimulating the surrounding gum tissue to allow your teeth to move into proper alignment up to 50% faster than traditional methods. While old methods may you to wear braces for 24 months or more, many of our patients who use Propel orthodontics are able to complete their orthodontic treatment in under 12 months. Call 202-333-9282 for your initial consultation and let us evaluate your situation and determine if you can benefit from Propel orthodontics.

The Propel orthodontic treatment can be completed right in the DC Dental Spa office and does not require any invasive surgical procedure. The Propel treatment results in truly little discomfort. There is absolutely no recovery time necessary and you will be able to immediately return to your normal daily routine.

If you simply desire straight teeth in less time, then you are eligible for the Propel Orthodontics option.

What is Propel Orthodontics?

Over two decades of research has culminated in the development of Propel orthodontics. Teeth may now be moved safely, and sometimes four times faster. The treatment time for orthodontic cases can be reduced from 18 to 36 months down to 3 to 8 months. Propel orthodontics is a combination of advanced orthodontics and periodontal oral surgery routinely used in dentistry for other correction objectives.

When used in combination with Propel orthodontics, we gain a powerful advantage in reducing normally accepted orthodontic treatment times.

Traditionally, orthodontic treatment takes an extended time due to the limitations of the bone that surrounds the teeth. The methodically slow and continual application of orthodontic forces triggers a biologic process resulting in extremely slow tooth movement. This is the same method that orthodontists have used to move teeth for the past 100 years.

Propel orthodontics solves this dilemma by employing advanced orthodontics combined with periodontal oral surgery which activates the bone that surrounds the teeth. By both stimulating and softening the bone, the teeth can be moved at an accelerated rate, while at the same time adding and benefiting from new bone growth to create a better foundation for the teeth.

We can achieve maximal surgical precision with minimal soft tissue injury. The activated tooth-supporting bone will allow and enhance accelerated tooth movement starting within two weeks from the procedure. Both upper and lower jaws can undergo this procedure at the same in-office appointment as well as a single tooth, or groups of teeth. We will determine which teeth to introduce to this process prior to introducing any orthodontic appliances necessary to start the dynamics of the teeth movement.

The reactivity and responsiveness of the upper and lower jaws to activation and augmentation is consistent with your cell biology and physiologic stages seen in the wound healing pattern of the regional acceleration phenomenon (RAP). Striking bursts in bone activity, both demineralization and then remineralization, occurs adjacent to the site of the activation and augmentation. This accelerated Propel orthodontics demonstrates how the biologic response can be modified to your advantage.

Additional benefits of Propel orthodontics due to the activated and augmented bone can be

  • Increased tooth and post-orthodontic stability.
  • Fewer extractions required for orthodontics.
  • Increased bone volume can improve facial aesthetics in some cases.
  • Repair of existing bony and/or soft tissue defects that support the teeth.
  • May be used as an alternate in option cases requiring orthognathic surgery.

How do your Teeth move in an Orthodontic Treatment?

By applying force on your teeth, it produces pressure and tension on both side of roots, causing remodeling of the bone and therefore, tooth movement. Osteoblasts and Osteoclasts are recruited to both remove and add bone on the pressure and tension side of the root. This process of inflammation is necessary for the movement to occur.

How does Propel then affect the Movement of the Teeth?

The tiny Micro-Osteoperforations with the Propel device cause a localized inflammation, which increases blood flow and cytokine expression as part of the desired inflammatory response. So, by increasing the cytokines in the area of the desired movement, the bone remodeling activity greatly increases and therefore the rate of tooth movement increases as well.

How long does Propel Orthodontics take to straighten teeth?

Traditional orthodontic procedures like braces can take anywhere from 2 – 3 years. The addition of the Propel orthodontic treatment method can have your orthodontic treatment completed 6 – 12 months.

Is Propel Orthodontics right for me?

Propel orthodontics is appropriate for all cases and all types of braces. If you have delayed or have declined conventional orthodontics due to the length of time necessary to complete the treatment now have a viable alternative to reconsider this treatment.
