Dental Veneers Washington DC

Porcelain veneers are slender pieces of porcelain that lay directly on the front surface of your existing teeth. These thin pieces are bonded over the existing tooth and are an alternative to traditional crowns.

If you are wishing to address aesthetic dental concerns regarding the shade, spacing, and even size of your teeth then you are an ideal candidate for porcelain veneers. Porcelain veneers can correct any cosmetic issue ranging from discoloration, broken or chipped teeth, tooth spacing, and mild crowding.

Our terrifically, well-informed team at DC Dental Spa are artistic with the application of porcelain veneers. We added this advanced technology and added it to our friendly and compassionate atmosphere, which helps us evaluate your intentions to find a solution quickly. Call 202-333-9282 for your initial consultation and let us help you bring back your healthy smile with new porcelain veneers.

To ensure that porcelain veneers are right for you, you will want to start by making an appointment with us at DC Dental Spas. Discussing your treatment goals at this evaluation will help us determine if veneers are an appropriate solution. We will also review veneer types and color shades that are available based on your budget and your desired outcome.

Preparing for the Porcelain Veneer Application

In this preparation visit, we need to start by making some room for your new veneers that will be placed over your existing teeth. In doing this step, we will remove a very thin layer of the tooth enamel. This procedure is usually painless, but we may give you the option for a local anesthetic if you are feeling uncomfortable.

Next, we will take an impression of your teeth to help us create the new shape you are looking for with the porcelain veneers. We will also choose together the most appropriate shade of porcelain to match the natural color of your teeth or the selected color if you are looking to improve the discoloration. Your porcelain veneers will then be fabricated at our lab before they are ready for bonding.

The Placement Process

The final appointment is an exciting and visually rewarding day! Your porcelain veneers are ready for placement, and you will get to walk out with a healthy new smile. First, we will make sure the new veneers both match the color and the desired shape. We may need to trim or change the color slightly before the bonding begins if they need slight modification.

Once they have passed the test, we will need to prep your teeth by conducting a general cleaning, polishing, and then etching of the teeth. The etching step is to roughen up the surface by using an abrasive dental liquid so the porcelain veneers will adhere to the teeth.

Once this prep work is completed, a bonding cement will be placed on the etched surface before setting the veneers over the teeth. If this cement needs assistance to in dry, a light will be used to quicken the curing or drying process. When the cement has cured, and the veneers place, you are finished and free to leave with your new smile. You should make a follow-up appointment so we can ensure the veneers are comfortable after placement.

Aftercare and any Side Effects

You may experience tooth sensitivity after your veneers are placed when they come in contact with hot and cold foods or drinks. This side effect will subside in a few weeks, but make sure to check in with us if the sensation lasts longer or continues.

After finally achieving this new and healthy smile you have been waiting for, you will want to make sure you are taking the time to maintain your veneers to ensure a longer life expectancy. If you grind your teeth you should always wear a night guard while sleeping. Veneers, just like your natural teeth, are not designed for clenching and twisting simultaneously, which will result in the cracking or fracturing of the porcelain. You may be also encouraged to avoid hard foods such as dense nuts or ice that can also cause stress on the veneers resulting in damage.

Porcelain

The most popular of the veneer types, porcelain is a durable and long-lasting option. Ceramic layers are typically comprised of dentin and enamel to portray a natural look and excellent fit. There will be some reduction in the natural teeth size with this method which might not be the best option for some patients.

Variations of Veneers

Here are three examples as you pursue veneers for cosmetic improvements:

  • Prep less

This type requires no reduction to your natural teeth before the placement. Prep less veneer shells are very thin porcelain pieces that lay over your existing teeth just like traditional porcelain veneers. If you are looking to correct several dental issues these may not be the best option

  • Minimal Prep

As the name indicates, minimal prep veneers can be placed with little preparation to the teeth before bonding. An exceedingly small amount of the teeth needs to be removed before the veneers are placed, allowing you the option of keeping your natural tooth structure in comparison to traditional porcelain veneers.

  • Composite

If you are looking for a more affordable veneer restoration, composite veneers can be a great option. There is truly little to almost no preparation needed to the teeth before placing this restoration. Composite veneers can be just as effective in correcting dental concerns. However, they will not last as long as porcelain, usually requiring replacement in five to ten years.
