It is the result of cutting-edge technology, that has been changing and evolving over the last twenty years. Invisalign helps to resolve many of the same issues that traditional braces are used to correcting.

What is the Difference between Invisalign and Traditional Braces?

While both traditional braces and Invisalign perform the same essential function, there are some huge differences between the two. Each both have their advantages, and disadvantages. Traditional braces can be used to treat more severe alignment issues that Invisalign is not always able to correct. The cost of traditional braces will also be less than that of Invisalign, depending on the actual amount of work that needs to be done.

The materials used for the two is the primary difference that you will find between traditional braces and Invisalign. The traditional braces are made with metal or enamel, while Invisalign is made with plastic. Because of the wires and metal used for braces, if you are active physically you run the risk of injury to your cheeks if the wire becomes damaged. This can be extremely uncomfortable and can sometimes only be treated by visiting us. It is also important to note that braces are fixed and not removeable without our help. Because of this, they can be difficult to clean, and certainly can be a nuisance at times.

Why choose Invisalign?

Invisalign offers a similar treatment objective without all the fuss that comes with traditional braces. Because the trays are made of plastic, they are far more comfortable to wear. There are no wires to worry about. This lowers your risk of injury to your cheeks, tongue, and mouth overall.

In addition to being more comfortable, Invisalign braces are also removeable. Therefore, it is easier to keep your mouth, teeth, and gums clean. It also means that you can remove them while playing sporting activities, or during any other activity that might require a mouth guard. You can remove them while eating, allowing you to bite and chew without having to worry about getting food stuck in your braces.

You may like the Invisalign option because they are clear, which makes them more difficult to notice. This cosmetic difference can be a major factor for you if would like to repair the alignment of their teeth, but also do not want to have metal pieces attached to your teeth. Due to their aesthetic appeal, durability and comfort, many people prefer Invisalign over traditional braces.

The Invisalign Process

The process of getting Invisalign braces begins with a consultation at DC Dental Spa because we specialize in the placement of these braces. Simply call to set an appointment for a consultation. During this consultation, we will take digital images of your teeth and your mouth. These images will be help us determine the right treatment plan for your individual needs. Once the right plan of action is decided by us together, we will introduce the amazing technology. A 3D CAD/CAM system uses the digital images to design a series of plastic trays that methodically push or pull your teeth, just like traditional brace.

Based on the treatment plan and the amount of desired correction, you will be given the correct number of additional trays that are designed to be changed out every two weeks. You will also need to set appointments with us every two months to we can track and make sure the alignment is going according to our plan.

It is imperative, to achieve the results of the program, that you wear your aligners at least 20-22 hours a day. Again, they are removable, but you need to monitor the time they are out of your mouth or you are simply extending the duration of the entire procedure. And just like that, before you know it, you will have perfectly straight teeth and a healthy smile!

Oral Health with Aligners

It is important to understand that wearing your new aligners does not directly help to improve your oral health. You must continue to brush, floss, and rinse out your mouth at least twice a day. You will also need to take good care of your aligners by keeping them clean. This means rinsing them out every night and brushing them lightly with your toothbrush. Straightening your teeth, filling unwanted gaps, and adjusting your bite can be quite easy with the help of Invisalign braces as long as you continue to take care of your teeth, your gums, and the aligners.

Costs and Insurance Coverage

Just like traditional metal braces, your dental insurance benefits plan will pay for your Invisalign clear braces. While not all plans will cover the entire cost, most plans will cover a large portion of the cost related to getting braces, like Invisalign. If you are not sure what your benefits plan covers, our staff is happy to reach out to your plan administrator to determine your coverage and how it will interact with our billing system.
