Tooth Colored Fillings – Amalgam-free

In the past, teeth that were decayed, chipped or fractured were often fixed using metal fillings. While these fillings helped restore the health and usability of teeth, their obvious appearance made them a less than ideal solution. Luckily, the same problems can be treated today using tooth-colored fillings that mimic the natural appearance of your own teeth.

Made of composite resin, a durable plastic material, the tooth-colored fillings are far less noticeable and far more attractive than traditional metal fillings. Instead of noticing the glint of metal when you flash your teeth, onlookers will only notice your beautiful smile.

In addition to being a more attractive option than metal fillings, tooth-colored fillings have benefits for your dental health. Instead of placing grooves, pins or slots in your teeth, fillings are bonded directly to your teeth using a chemical process. This ensures that more of your own natural tooth structure is conserved. The fillings may also be used with dental sealants that protect your teeth and prevent future decay, and they restore nearly all the original strength of a broken, damaged or chipped tooth.

With proper care, tooth-colored fillings can last a lifetime. Treat your filling just as you would a natural tooth: brush it twice a day, floss once a day, and make an appointment with Lansdowne Dental Associates twice a year for a routine cleaning and check-up. During your visit, we will check your tooth-colored fillings for leakage, color changes or unusual wear and address any issues immediately to reduce the need for replacement or repair.
