Dental Crowns/Bridges

couple-2436263_640At DC Dental Spa, we use bridges and crowns to improve both your appearance and your overall health

Dental crowns and bridges are an ideal solution to a number of dental problems. They may be recommended by your DC Dental Spa dentist if you are missing one or more teeth, want to cover a poorly shaped or discolored tooth or need to restore a fractured tooth.

Both bridges and crowns are replacement teeth that, unlike dentures, are cemented onto your natural teeth or other implants.

Dental Crowns

Crowns “cap” or completely cover a damaged tooth. They can be used to improve the alignment, shape or appearance of a tooth or strengthen a damaged tooth. Dental crowns may also be placed over an implant to provide function and a tooth-like shape. Usually made from ceramic or porcelain material, dental crowns look and feel like natural teeth.

Dental Bridges

Your DC Dental Spa dentist may recommend a dental bridge to span a gap left by missing teeth. It is important to fill the gap because your remaining teeth may shift or rotate to fill the empty space, causing a bad bite and a host of other dental and oral issues.

Bridges span the entire space left by missing teeth. They are cemented to the implants or natural teeth that surround the space, and they are individually made to match the size, shape and shade of your natural teeth.

Caring for Dental Crowns and Bridges

Dental bridges and dental crowns can last a lifetime if you care for them properly. Practicing good oral hygiene habits is the single most important step one can take to keep dental bridges and crowns attractive and strong. If you have dental crowns or bridges, brush them twice a day using a fluoride toothpaste, floss each day and make an appointment with you DC Dental Spa dentist twice yearly for a professional cleaning and check up.
